Row and column reduction
Consider the matrix \[ A = \matrix{1 & 0 & 0 & 0 \\ 0 & 1 & 0 & 7 \\ 0 & 0 & 1 & 0 \\ }\] This matrix is in row reduced echelon form, but not column reduced. In order to achieve this, a right multiplication is needed by a matrix of the form #E_{ij,\lambda}# for row number #i#, column number #j#, and a real number #\lambda#.
